MJB Images are exhibiting at Sudbury on the 30th August 2014

MJB Images

My name is Malcolm Brown, I took early retirement from being a Deputy-Head at St Aubyn’s School,Woodford Green, Essex in 2007; partly to follow my other interests, photography, writing, bird watching and keeping hens.

I started to use my photos on greetings cards to friends and was then encouraged by them to launch my photos and photo-cards into the wider world……thus MJB Images was born!  I try to make my photography artistic and unique, representing the natural world from different perspectives ~ sometimes I like to use the images I capture in the field to be sketches from which I build and develop ideas.  In recent years my approach to my work has been influenced by David Hockney’s ‘The Bigger Picture’ exhibition.

I do all my own processing up to A4 size using an Epson Expression XP 600 and Epson Claria premium inks. All images are printed on to Ilford Galerie premium Lustre 270gsm paper or other superior papers. For larger work I engage the services of a professional print company.

I produce cards using my photos – at present, in formats a large card with photo in window and small note let sized card with photo attached to the front. All cards can be produced in various colours, all cards are left blank for your own message. I can produce runs of any of the cards in colours of your choice. To see some examples of my cards, look in the gallery section in the ‘Example of my Cards’ folder. Please bear in mind the quality of cards is better than represented in the photos.

I also have a range of mounted, framed and canvas photos in various sizes and types of frame.
If you wish to purchase any cards or mounted, framed or canvas photos go to the ‘SALES’ page for details(I do not do online sales), alternatively come along to one of the venues I will attend throughout the year.

All my mounted, framed and canvas works are limited editions of 25.  So by buying any of my work you are purchasing a unique piece of photographic art!  I was accepted into the Guild of Essex Craftsmen in April 2010.  At present I regularly sell my cards and photos in the Maeldune Heritage Centre, Maldon, Essex.

I have now also published a poetry book – ‘Whispers in the Reeds’ (see NEWS section for details). Sections of the poems featured in the book already appear on some of my cards and more will follow shortly.

The Rock Gallery are exhibiting at the Summer craft fair in Sudbury

Posted by Kylie on Wednesday 13th August 2014

The Rock Gallery

The Rock Gallery will be exhibiting for the first time at Sudbury on the 30th August and at Lavenham on 13th December. This small business is run by Gerald Lucy who lives in Saffron Walden, and sells fossils, natural crystals and decorative stones for collectors and for home decoration. He has been exhibiting at craft fairs in Essex and adjoining counties for over 20 years. A large number of his products are British, particularly the fossils, and many are meticulously prepared using specialist tools to bring out their natural beauty and scientific interest. All are provided with a comprehensive label and can be gift boxed for a truly unique present. He hopes to have a website up and running very soon.

One of the most interesting items he currently has for sale is the rare British decorative stone ‘Cotham marble’ which is found only in the Bristol district. The unique landscape effect is due to the growth of algae in shallow water on an ancient shoreline 200 million years ago. On this hand-polished piece the resemblance to a line of hedges and trees is uncanny. Cotham marble is named after the suburb of Bristol where it was first found. The piece shown here retails for £49 and can be provided with a stand.
